Cotton Tail Layout - Tonya Gibbs

Today I wanted to share with you a layout that I created using Marion's Grand Mini Album and Life Planner downloads.

These are some of my favorite photos of my nieces.  We took them at Easter last year.  The bunny was such a sweet addition to the photo shoot, and Addie kissing the bunny was just the sweetest moment ever!

I really wanted the focus to be on the photographs for this layout.  So I tried to avoid too many embellishments and color.  Since their dresses had so much pink in them, I decided to avoid pinks in my paper choices.  If there is a dominate color in your photo, try to chose papers and embellishments that do not contain these colors.  It will help to send everything to the background and make your photo pop!

I placed the photos into the photo frames that are available in the Life Planner download. These frames alone make this kit worth having. I just love their odd shape. I used patterns from both collections to create my own washi tapes.  Then finished off the layout with lace to soften up the harsh lines of the journal pages, and embellishments.

Sunshine Digi Layout

I'm having so much fun playing around with Marion's Scarlet collection. I've made three very different layouts now.   I'm well on my way to getting the photo book printed by Christmas!

A few months ago my daughter Brittany came home with this adorable haircut, and we just had to do an impromptu photo shoot on our front porch.  You can tell from the photos, Brittany has a fun personality and I really wanted that to show in the layout.  So I made sure the photo frames were trendy and fun.  The slight tilt and different sizes make them fun and whimsical.

For this layout I used the following patterns from the Scarlet collection to create the layers

Chalkboards are so popular right now, and I was glad that Marion provided one for journaling in the collection.  I used the chalkboard to emphaise my title.  Since my husband nicknamed Brittany Sunshine when she was born, I felt it was a great title for the page.  I wanted a few more details on the layout like "her name and the date of the photos" so I used the space on the photo frames for these minor details.

I love how versital the patterns are in this collection.   This photo book is going to be stunning when it is finished.

Altered Box with "Scarlet" Digitals...

I was so thrilled beyond measure to be able to create with Marion Smith's new digitals named "Scarlet"!
This new collection has beautiful soft tones with a pop of color!
I decided to create a little altered box for my daughter who is going to college, she wanted a little pretty jewerly box to sit upon her dresser.
I know I needed to use this beautiful digial collection "Scarlet" just screams shabby chic!
I started with white washing the box and painting the tiny spools for the feet.
Glued the papers to the box after I distressed all the edges of the papers.
Using a mask and stucco/gesso mixture added a beautiful demask texture to the box.
What is awesome about this paper is there are so many possiblites of making your own embellishments from within the paper alone...see here I took a resin frame and cut out this little lady to place inside. Along with that I used chipboard pieces and covered with the papers!
To help my daughter know how much we love her I created a little bit of home in creating the silky flowers (pinks and grey ones) for the altered box, added some mother of pearl buttons for the centers...my daughter just loves these flowers I make....
I just love this little altered box and it also thrills my heart to know  that my daughter will enjoy it everyday as she gets ready for her day in college life....a little piece of home and love...

Here is the amazing paper collection I used called "Scarlet"

Masculine Layouts with Scarlet

I'm so excited to have the opportunity to use Marion Smith's digital images from the Scarlet collection. Last week I shared with you a layout I created of my niece Emily.  Today I want to show you how the same collection can be used to create a Masculine layout.

Mr. Cool began first grade this week. He is the baby on my side of the family, and all week we have been saying "why did he have to grow up so fast!" When I found this photo of my nephew Cooper, I had to find a way to use it on a project.  Today, a year after the photo was taken, he looks so grown up.  I'm sure many of you can relate to this, as your loved ones go back to school.

I used the masculine patterns from the Scarlet collection to create this digi layout. To make the layout more masculine, I focused on a monochromatic color scheme. Below are the patterns that I used......

In the Scarlet-Timekeeper paper I wanted to use the clocks and gears as a frame around the photograph, but the flower was too feminine. I decided to cover it with one of the clocks from the Scarlet-Clock paper.

I converted the Scarlet-folder page to black and white then inverted the image to give me a darker more edgy file folder for contrast against the layers of patterned paper.  Then I cropped only the edge of the folder to use on my layout.  You can see it poking out behind the gears in the above photo.

To create my washi tape - I used the Scarlet-LoveNote paper.  To make it dark, I followed the same steps as the file folder. Then changed the color to a rich brown so that it would have contrast, but not be too distracting. I then used a mask to give it a torn look.

I love to use things in an unexpected way. This collection has a very feminine vibe. By being selective with which portions I took from the collection, I was able to create a very masculine project.

Creating Art Hybrid Style

Hi everyone!  My first post for Marion Smith Designs and I'm thrilled to bring you a hybrid layout that I designed using one of Marion's beautiful Printables.   Let's start with where this project all began.

Browsing Pinterest the other day I stumbled across this image, which just so inspired me to create something out of the ordinary.

So I combined a picture of my girl and Just My Type digital paper to begin.
 +   =
I reduced the opacity setting on the photo (top layer) to allow some of the background paper to show through subtly.
Once I had printed out the finished image I mounted it onto chipboard to give it stability. That was then mounted onto a 12 x 12 covered chipboard sheet for added dimension. (Did I tell you I love dimension??!!).
The colours/tones of the digital paper determined my choice of colours for the embellishments, and I pulled all the orange/beige/cream/brass items I could find from my stash.  From there it was just a matter of playing around with the placement of all the elements until I was satisfied with the result.  Look closely and you'll see lots of interesting elements tucked away in there!

The richness and intricacies in Marion's designs are incredible.  And they lend themselves to so much interpretation.  Looking forward to my next project!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Emily Layout

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

A few days ago, Marion announced her new digi line Scarlet. The papers are vintage prints with lots of your favorite eclectic and bright motifs.  I love the embellishment pages, and decided to use some of the elements to create a layered Digi Layout of my niece Emily on her first birthday.

When I have 20 of these layouts finished, I love to upload them to an online photo service like Shutterfly and have them printed into a hard bound book.  These books make great gifts and look beautiful on coffee tables.  Bonus is you can print them as often as you like to share with loved ones.

This line contains 27 beautiful digi downloads. I also love to print these out on standard cardstock, and make mini albums, layouts, and cards.   Click here to download these gorgeous papers.
