Grandpa's day

Hi everybody and happy monday,

Like I mentioned in my last post this project will be for Grandpa,
because 22nd of January is Polish Grandfather's Day.

So here is my proposition for a masculine Grandpa card:

I chose the NIRVANA collection which is perfect for masculine projects.
I started with this sheet for background:

Then cut out a bike from this sheet:

and a tag from this one:

Next step was some stamping using:

... and voilá, the card is ready.

Thank you for visiting us and have a great day.
Stay tuned

You Sparkle

Well hello there! I hope you are all having a wonderful January! Personally I feel like after Christmas, it can get warm again ;) Buuut that's not really the case here. So. One of the first papers that caught my eye in Marion's new line Garment District was a delicious minty green paper with this beautiful white dreamy pattern across it, and it just made me think of a wintery snowflake page immediately! I mixed it with some other papers I had on hand in my stash along with some cut out pieces also from the Garment District line and here's what I came up with;

That is my darling niece. She is just the sweetest thing and lights up room when she enters it! I did just a little layering and tucked in some snowflakes die cut out of white sparkly paper, sprinkled some Color Shine, and stenciled some gesso in a few spots just to give it some dimension.

Also something new that Marion has are these beautiful resin roses! I just love them! They also have gigantor ones coming soon too, so those will be fun to play with!

I hope you enjoyed my page today, I figured I'm stuck with a lot more Winter here so I might as well make it sparkly & pretty right?!  ;) Make sure you get your hands on some of this Garment District line before it's gone, it's so beautiful!

Have  a wonderful day!

Love, Sarah

Love is in the Air???

Hello Friends!  I know the calendar says January, which means cold to lots of folks,  but I got in the mood to start creating for February!  I am kind of pushing the month of January along and ready to head into spring!  (go, go, go)!!!
I Love February and of course that means Valentines Day!  I especially love this holiday because I am a Valentine!!  (Valentine was my maiden name!!!)  We always celebrated it up big at our house being Valentines and all, so knowing it is just under a month away, I am ready to start making cards, and little Gifts for that special day!

Marion was just at CHA showing off her beautiful new paper lines and new embellishments!  I know everyone is going to love all these new products!  I am sharing a card I made using the Garment District collection!
Look at all these wonderful options!!!

I love a little pennant swag!!  Isn't that little flower charm adorable??

The background of the card is pink Coredinations card stock.  I used the opposite side in my Cuttlebug embossing machine to make the Love Love Love background.  After running it thru the embosser, I sanded the Love's and then distressed them a bit with some chalk ink.  I love the texture!

The rest of the card is built with all the fun elements from Garment District!  It is chock full of little tags and roses and MY favorite is that measuring tape!  I am a seamstress also, so this line is really a favorite.  It has so many versatile pieces!
The Metal Butterfly is gorgeous too!!!

As you can see, theres alot of fun to choose from in this collection!   I hope I inspired you to get going on some LOVE for the upcoming LOVE holiday!
Hugs and kisses
Colette Valentine Nederhoff!

National Hobby Month - How To's

Happy New Year to all our wonderful Marion Smith Designs fans!  I hope 2014 brings you many happy crafting days!  And that is quite possible, given the amazing CHA releases that Marion is debuting this week!

January also happen to be National Hobby Month, so this month I thought I would share a few technique 'how to's' with you.  Let's start with this...

Do you recognise this rose image?  It's one of Marion's Mad Tea Party stamps.  But I used it here a little unconventionally.  It's a page from the Mad Tea Party pop-up book I created (which is at Marion's booth at CHA this week if you want to stop by and see it).  Here's how I created this:

I call this my Stamp Stencil Method!
  1. Prepare your surface with a good quality gesso or similar and dry.
  2. Using a spatula, spread a reasonable amount of texture paste ( I used Reeves modelling paste) over the surface - the thickness should be about 1/8 inch and as smooth as you can get it.
  3.  Carefully press the stamp into the smooth paste, being careful not to press too hard which will 'smudge' the image.
  4. Again - carefully lift the stamp off the paste, and immediately clean your stamp (I used a soft nail brush to scrub mine clean).
  5. Let the texture paste dry naturally.  Using a heat gun to speed up the process may result in the paste bubbling.  Texture paste drys quite quickly anyway.
  6. Use your favourite mists to colour the image.  I applied a little mist flowing by a good spray of water, to help the colour spread and settle into all the little grooves.  Build up the depth of colour until you are satisfied with the result.
You could use anything to colour the image really, Spectrum Noir/Copic Marker, Gelatos, watercolours etc etc.

Now, as luck would have it, Marion has just released lots more stamps - and some more gorgeous floral ones amongst them - check these out...

I will definitely be using these, including the chicken wire and bumble bee, with the texture paste method!

I'll be back later this month with another How To for you!   In the meantime, please leave a comment and link us to your blog so we can see your wonderful MSD creations!

Signature Album by Ana Paula - part 1

Hi, everyone!
Ana Paula here and today is my turn to share a project with you.
I want to show you the fisrt part of a very special project for my family.
This signature album will be used to celebrate the golden wedding of my parents-in-law.
My mother-in-law asked for the guests a donation for a Female Network against Cancer in her city.
A noble gesture of her.
She also  wanted people left some messages,
some kind and friendly words that she wants to keep forever
 to remember  this special occasion.
Said that,
I had to create  an album  to be on a par with this
wonderful party in golden hues.

I used some papers from the Nirvana line
and mixed with some  papers from the Mad Tea party line
to give a retro look to the entire project.
Here is the cover of the album:

I purchased the album and customized it using papers and embellishments.
I covered some chipboards and used  foam tape to layer them symmetrically.
I also used metallic flowers, sparkles in arabesques,
resin frames with patina technique and
some MDF charms complete this cover
with hues of golden as the main inspiration.

Wall Art "Valentine Rose" & Tutorial

Good morning today I bring you some Valentine eye candy!!
I have started early creating my own wall art/home decor for our home.
Using the Mad Tea Party paper collection by Marion Smith....and embellishment page
to create my Valentine Rose wall art piece.
I love the shabby chic vintage feel and look...

The lovely embellishment pages from the Mad Tea Party
paper line works great for wall art, cards, scrapbook pages.

Wall Art Tutorial
Prime wood piece with gesso, add texture with your favorite mask/stencil.
Spray your favorite mist...I used glimmer mist!
Give it a white wash with gesso...that is your background to build upon.
Rip the edges of the paper you choose, along with tearing holes
in your paper to give old feel...distress the edges with ink.
I also used a wet paint brush to moist the edges to curl up...
Pick your favorite flowers and embellishments...I gesso the fake
flowers and glimmer mist the Petaloo white flowers...great way to get the color you want.
Wood Veneers are great to add to your project...colored
with glimmer mist..stamp on and cut apart to tuck into your project.

Thanks for stopping by today,
Hugs
